Borger firefighters spent Tuesday afternoon battling a grass fire fueled by winds of more than 25 mph. Firefighters said they responded to the 104-acre fire about 3:40 p.m. near Spring Creek Road and Highway 280. Fire damaged a brick home in Borger on Sunday night, the result of smoldering coals left in the kitchen trash. No injuries were reported at the home in the 400 block of Beech Street, said Fire Marshal Jerry Langwell. The family was not home when the fire was telephoned in by neighbors at 8:37 p.m.

High winds Thursday knocked out power and sparked fires throughout the region, officials said.
