Thursday, the council named James McCoy as chairman of the new 15-member Emergency Medical Services committee. The committee, which is charged with considering the shape of ambulance and first-responder resources for the city, will consider the pros and cons of the Abilene Fire Department taking over EMS services in the area.

The Abilene City Council will consider creating an Emergency Medical Service citizens advisory committee during its regular meeting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at City Hall, 555 Walnut St. The committee would be charged with considering the shape of ambulance and first-responder resources for the city.
