Storm winds toppled walls at a Rice University dorm construction site Thursday afternoon, killing one construction worker and sending four others to area hospitals, authorities said.
The collapse occurred shortly at about 4 p.m., as rain and high winds whipped through the McMurtry College construction site at Sunset and Rice boulevards, southeast of downtown Houston, said B.J. Almond, the school’s spokesman. Read More »

Chemical Vapors Pour Out of Houston Building

A west Houston parking lot was filled with chemical vapors that poured out of a building early Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston firefighters said the chemical started to leak out of NuCo2, housed in a building on North Post Oak Road near West 12th Street at about 7 a.m. Executive Assistant Chief Rich Flanagan said the chemical appeared to be carbon dioxide. Read More »
