30 Departments fight 3,000 acre fire in Comanche County; 1 FF injured

Firefighters from approximately 30 departments were battling a grass fire for the second day in Comanche County late Wednesday afternoon. The Texas Forest Service reported the fire, 20 miles east of Comanche near Lamkin in Comanche County, had burned 3,000 acres, destroyed one home and two outbuildings. Read More »

FF Injured at Three-alarm blaze in Amarillo

A firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries he suffered Wednesday afternoon while battling a three-alarm residential blaze in southwest Amarillo. The firefighter, who was not identified, received his injuries about 20 minutes into the firefighting effort when a ceiling in the two-story house at 4211 Palacio Drive fell on him, said Lt. Jeremy Hill of the Amarillo Fire Department. Read More »

A rookie firefighter was killed and two police officers were wounded when a gunman opened fire in Maplewood early today. The gunman might still be holed up in a burning home, and police sharpshooters have swarmed the neighborhood near South Big Bend Boulevard and Zephyr Place. The dead firefighter has been identified as Ryan Hummert, 22. Read More »
