Several firefighters suffered heat exhaustion Sunday afternoon while battling a blaze that engulfed an unauthorized trash dump in South Bexar County, a fire official said.

Some neighbors ran for their lives as fire shot through first floor windows and the second floor roof. Other’s ran back into the burning building to make sure everyone was out and okay. An apartment fire destroyed several homes on the North Side early Friday morning.

A couple was forced out of their home overnight, when flames broke out in the kitchen and spread. The fire started around 3:00 a.m. at a duplex in the 300 block of Avondale, on the south side.
