Man critically burned in Saturday morning trailer fire

By Mike Baird in The Corpus Christi Caller-Times
A 61-year-old man was burned in an early morning fire Saturday at a trailer park, fire officials said. Medical rescuers took the man from his trailer home in the 5100 block of Up River Road to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial with burns on his chest and face, said Battalion Chief J.D. Johnson, with Corpus Christi Fire Department.

The man was later flown to Brooke Army Medical Center’s burn center in San Antonio in stable but critical condition, HALO-Flight officials said.

There was heavy fire showing about 5:30 a.m. as firefighters arrived. It took 19 firefighters about five minutes to control the blaze after they arrived, Johnson said.

A cause has not been determined, said Capt. James Brown, an investigator with the department. The home and its contents were a total loss, he said.
