Faulty electric stove starts Lower Valley house fire

By Daniel Borunda in The El Paso Times
A faulty electrical stove started a house fire in the Lower Valley, El Paso Fire Department officials said. At about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, a neighbor called 911 after seeing light smoke coming from the front of a home in the 8400 block of Reindeer Avenue in the Marion Manor area, officials said. No one was home at the time.

Officials said firefighters arrived to find flames in the kitchen and dining area of the home. The fire was extinguished in less than 15 minutes. An investigator determined the fire was started by a faulty electrical stove that failed to shut off correctly, became too hot and ignited items nearby.

The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage. The American Red Cross was called to help two people living at the home.
