Mother, 3 children trapped in deadly apartment fire in Webster

Update: Two children were dead and another left clinging to life Thursday after an early-morning fire swept through a Webster apartment complex. Authorities said Dana Novak, her four kids and her two brothers were at their home in the Skylar Point Apartments in the 1200 block of El Camino Village when the fire broke out.
Firefighters arrived around 4:40 a.m. to find the building completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters said Novak ran out of her burning apartment carrying her 4-year-old son, Nicholas, then attempted to go back in for the others. Firefighters joined in, pulling two kids from the inferno, but one of the children remained missing.
Neighbors said they felt helpless. “I heard the little kids screaming, but couldn’t get to them,” said Brandon Moore. “Nothing you could do, but just sit back and watch.”
After the fire was put out, the missing child’s body was found. “Nobody could have survived the blaze, the flames were too intense,” said Webster Fire Chief Patrick Shipp.
Firefighters were shaken up at the scene.
Novak was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. Her 5-year-old son, Nathaniel, was taken to Memorial Hermann, where he remained on life support Thursday evening. .
Twelve-year-old Kaitlyn, a student at Space City Intermediate, and 8-year-old Christian, who attended Armond Bayou Elementary, were killed. Novak’s brothers made it out safely.
Five units were completely destroyed. The cause of the fire was not yet known, but appeared to have started in the attic, fire officials said. Residents of the complex said there have been a number of fires there in the past that also started in the attic.
Multiple agencies worked the scene, including the Webster Fire Department, Webster Police Department, League City Fire Department, Nassau Bay Fire Department, Forrest Bend Fire Department and CLEMC.

Two children died and two other people were injured in a fire at an apartment complex in Webster early this morning. The fire broke out at the Skylaw Point Apartments at 1210 El Camino Village near NASA Road 1 about 4:30 a.m., said Crystal Roan, spokeswoman for the City of Webster. It was extinguished about 6 a.m.
Roan said the two children were pronounced dead at the scene. An adult and another child were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their conditions and injuries were not released, but the adult is expected to survive. All of the victims, whose names have not been released, were found in the same unit, but their relationship to one another is not known, Roan said. No other injuries were reported.
Five units were destroyed in the fire. Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.

The mother and one of the children suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Multiple departments are on the scene including Webster, League City and Nassau Bay.

Just curious, I am a mother of four as well, how can there be 3 adults and 4 children in a home and only the mother, brothers, and one child that ran out of the house safe? If it was me, I would of thrown my kids out windows or died in the fire with them. Just a thought, was there really any parents or adults there? I also heard that the parents were going through or just got divorced, does the father of the children live close by? God will only know that answer. However, I am terribly sorry for the mother and fathers loss and my prayers are with her and her family.
Dear Mrs Curious, for your information the mother was trapped upstairs and stopped breathing, Her brothers woke up to smoke and were trapped down stairs trying around 30 times to get to someone screaming their heads off. Finally they found the mothers hand and dragged her dead body down stairs and her other brother started CPR, the black soot was so thick in her nose, her brother than did a Cardio Thump as hard as he could and started her heart. You think you would have thrown your children out of the window but when you consume that much smoke Carbon Dioxide, the mothers was an 18 an hour later it causes confusion in the brain 20 your dead. The mother had a fire ladder too but the smoke overcome them so much, when they were sleeping they all passed out up stairs, they couldn’t even find the stairs, it was too dark and no telling how long they had been sleeping in that. Yes, God does know the answer and the girl running out side was with the other child that was downstairs was her brothers girlfriend. You should be ashamed of yourself assuming you could have done a better job, She did die for a minute trying to save her children and got blasted back from the back draft then they all died, Missy. As far as a divorce the dad was cozy in his home laying up with his new girlfriend and family and going through a divorce doesn’t give anyone the right to say anything to the mother because there are plenty of witness that know there were no smoke alarms upstairs but only a base, the children and mother were all screaming for help. You need to get right with God!

Dana trust me I know what your going through. I loved every moment I spent with those kids and i wish I could have it all back. But your right they shouldnt have said anything about you not dying for your children when you did. if they werent there they should keep their mouths shut. yall’s family is like hunter maddys and my family away from my biological family and it will never be the same without those three. Kaitlyn was like my sister and she still is and the boys are like my brothers and they still are. Love you Dana hope to see you soon!

Also Curious just to let you know the dad was laying up with his girlfriend when this happened and also lied the day of the fire on a legal doc when his own children were dying…saying there was a Meth Lab he saw it …which was also false, Why Lie? Then he got an attorney the day of the fire who can do that when you wife is laying there with black soot teeth and tongue and covered in soot and he said not one word to her, not even comfort words, and his children were being rushed to the morgue and one life flighted…So I know who you are and you should really get your facts right..Who can think of all that during a time like this..Are you really that stupid??? Dad interfered with lies during an investigation when his children were dying… I am not playing anymore…He will pay for his lies and lying the day of the investigation aren’t you atleast curious why they moved. because there were other false alleagtions and CPS was standing in the house as 3 came in and her home got broke into 3 times..She let in fear Stupid again you are….I guess you will learn that too, very soon…Oh did I say their was a protective order on him as well at this time???I bet you would like to know why???You are stupid…
