Houston’s first female firefighter wants to become HFD’s first female chief

Houston’s first female firefighter wants to come out of retirement for what she hopes will be another first: Houston’s first female fire chief. Linda Honeycutt has been working as a chiropractor for the past several years. She retired from the Houston Fire Department in 1997 after working her way up to the rank of captain.
Mayor Annise Parker said finding a new fire chief has been a top priority in the wake of last year’s racism and sexism scandal in the department. Her office confirmed Thursday that the list of finalists for the chief’s job is narrowed to three, but it does not include a woman.
Honeycutt said she hopes to change that. “Well, I would have thought that there would have been some eligible candidate within the fire service or outside the fire service that could come in and compete to have a voice for the ladies. A voice for all of the firefighters,” Honeycutt said.
Honeycutt submitted her resume to the mayor’s office Thursday morning.

ok lets take out the fact that shes a woman… you have an individual that has been out of the fire service for over 10 years, i think it might take a little catching up on SOP’s. PLUS, this individual has never hald the rank of chief, highest rank held was captain. im sure there are some outstanding captains for HFD that are more qualified and can do the job better than this individual trying to apply for the position. if this individual gets the job i feel like it will be more of a slap in th face to all uniformed personel than it would be to try to promote a politcal image.
