The westbound lanes of IH-10 are now clear after being shut down most of Tuesday morning due to a tanker explosion. Flames could be seen erupting from the tanker truck as fire crews arrived to the scene on IH-10 near the Colonade.

Police say it was about 2:00 a.m. when the driver experienced some kind of mechanical problem that caused the explosion. Investigators tell WOAI that fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before igniting the fuel inside the tanker.

The driver of the truck was able to make it out safely. The westbound lanes of IH-10 were re-opened just before 4:30 a.m.
