Authorities suspect transients intentionally set a small fire that broke out about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in a vacant apartment building. Lt. Brian Hill of the Corpus Christi Police Department said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the 500 block of Texas Trail within a few minutes.

“There is no reason for that fire to start,” Hill said.

No one was injured. Hill said police believe it was an act by transients who were trying to protect their makeshift residence.

“There was a real estate agent trying to sell it, so they think if they can make it uninhabitable they will be able to stay as long as they want,” Hill said.
