Fire damages Northeast Austin townhouse

Firefighters have put out an apartment fire in Northeast Austin. It broke out about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Capitol Village Apartments on Hwy 290 just east of Berkman Drive.
Firefighters say fire damage was contained to a two-story townhouse but several nearby unit sustained water damage.

Nine residents from three units were forced from their homes. Complex management and the Red Cross are helping them find a place to stay. No one was hurt but two dogs were killed.
