Firefighters put out three-alarm blaze in NW Houston
By Dale Lezon in The Houston Chronicle
Firefighters extinguished a three-alarm blaze at an apartment complex in northwest Houston this morning. The fire broke out about 9:30 a.m. at the residential complex in the 1600 block of Blalock near Crispin. Police blocked off Blalock in both directions nearby.
Firefighters reportedly saw heavy smoke coming from the second floor roof and later determined they needed more equipment and personnel to attack the fire. It appeared to be under control by 10:30 a.m.
It turned out the fire was confined to four units, one of which was vacant, and a resident said she believed it started in a heater, firefighters said. Extra units were called because firefighters had trouble finding the source of the flames initially and needed some relief help.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
