From KTRK News, Houston
The Houston Fire Department handed out holiday food baskets to needy seniors on Friday. Houston Hispanic Firefighters Local 341 and community volunteers filled up paper bags with fresh fruit and vegetables, noodles and other goodies. Seniors came to the American Legion Hall on Avenue C to get their baskets. It’s the 28th year the firefighters have given away holiday food baskets.

“One day the guys got together and wanted to do something for the community they live and work in. We started off back then with 100 and we’ve come up to 1,500,” said Richard Gomez of Houston Hispanic Firefighters.

The food baskets are paid for by fundraisers held throughout the year.
