A fire, which broke out at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday at a 16-unit apartment complex at 1721 Beltline Road, resulted in six units sustaining fire and water damage. The apartment is a three-story building.
“The fire broke out between the first and second floors in the walls,” said Chief Kevin Richardson. “It took over and hour to get the fire under control.”
According to Richardson one occupant was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation but was released. No other injuries were reported.
Richardson said the fire caused a great deal of smoke, which hampered firefighters. Some 60 firefighters responded to the four-alarm fire.
“The smoke was very intense in the building,” Richardson said.
Richardson added that the American Red Cross and apartment management have already been at the scene and are helping residents find shelter and clothing.
