2-alarm Fire in Houston Heights Area
|
A nearby business also burns in blaze possibly set to cover burglary
Firefighters took about 45 minutes to put out the latest suspicious house fire the Heights area of Houston, which would be the 19th arson case in the area since August if investigators determine it was intentionally set.
The blaze broke out around 4 a.m. on the 1300 block of Nashua near 14th Street. It spread to two smaller structures nearby, and two alarms were pulled because of the dense construction on the block. A used car dealer and an auto repair shop back up to the property.
No injuries were reported.
The blaze fits the pattern of many of the other suspicious fires that have caused concern in the Heights area in recent months: It started in the early-morning darkness and occurred at an unoccupied structure.
One arrest has been made in one fire. David Joseph Prince, 30, was arrested in the Sept. 17 blaze at a vacant house at 807 West 12th Street. He has not been formally linked to any other fires.
A commercial building on the 2400 block of Yale near 24th Street also burned this morning. The blaze was reported around 5:15 a.m., and some firefighters from the Nashua blaze rushed to the second fire. District Chief Johnny Smith said the second blaze appeared to be set to cover an overnight burglary. The fire was out by 5:45 a.m.
