More than 30 firefighters were battling a house fire Tuesday evening in the Lower Valley.
Fire officials said the fire was caused by a 4-year-old playing with matches. The fire began minutes before 5 p.m. in the 900 block of Burgess in the Loma Terrace area. A family of four in the home was able to escape safely, firefighters said.

“The whole front part of the house was fully involved,” Fire Inspector John Concha said.

Firefighters had the blaze was under control by 5:30 p.m. but were putting out spot fires in the structure. There were 10 firefighting vehicles at the scene. A cause of the fire was under investigation.

Concha said that initial reports indicate a grandmother saw flames coming from a bedroom and the family evacuated. The American Red Cross is at the scene.
