Arlington FF’s Rescue 2 After Fall From Dallas Cowboys Stadium Roof
|
Two workers fell on the Dallas Cowboys Stadium roof while doing maintenance about 7 a.m. Thursday. The men fell and slid as much as 70 feet from the roof’s peak onto a lip around its edge, said Don Crowson, an assistant fire chief in Arlington. Icy conditions atop the dome may have been a factor in the accident.
Neither man, who both work for a Manhattan Construction subcontractor, was using a safety harness, as required, Crowson said. One worker suffered a broken leg, chest and head injuries, and had lost consciousness. The other man injured his back but was alert and talking to rescuers. None of their injuries appeared life-threatening, but one of the workers was believed to be in critical condition, Crowson said.

Once atop the roof, at least a dozen rescuers used ladders and rappelling ropes to safely remove both men about an hour after the fall. Each was encased in a rigid basket to protect them on the 30-minute trip to the ground.
One man was taken by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, and the other was taken to a John Peter Smith trauma center.
Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said workers were on the roof this morning performing maintenance that will continue through the new year.
Officials at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration declined to comment on the accident this morning.
