Official Press Release

A fire early this morning at the Woodsman Condos in the 2800 block of Longmire Drive severely burned on occupant who was transferred to a Houston hospital.

College Station Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire at 12:11 a.m. The first unit arrived on the scene at 12:15 and initially reported “nothing showing.” Investigation showed a small fire in one bedroom of the condo and evidence of a possible explosion.

The fire was brought under control at 12:23. Damage was confined to the bedroom. The fire is under investigation by the College Station Fire Marshal’s Office.

One occupant of the condo had been taken to the College Station Medical Center by an acquaintance. Investigators determined that the occupant suffered extensive first and second degree burns to most of his body.  He was transferred to a Houston hospital.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire appears suspicious in nature and may be related to the clandestine manufacturing of illegal drugs.

This incident is also under criminal investigation by the College Station Police Department.
