Around 10:30 on Sunday night, Tarkington firefighters were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on CR 2212. Tarkington VFD Assistant Chief Evert Doucette arrived at the scene to find heavy fire in the passenger compartment of a blue Ford Explorer. Firefighters on Engine 52 and Engine 51 arrived soon thereafter and extinguished the fire before it could spread. However, the inside sustained severe damage.

The fire had been reported by a passerby and the vehicle’s owner was not at the scene, raising suspicions as to the fire’s origin. Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies responded and are investigating.
