Whitehouse Firefighters Rescue Woman from Tree

When thinking of firefighters rescuing living things from trees one usually thinks of kittens. But, Whitehouse firefighters were dispatched to a location on Mixon Road Sunday afternoon to rescue a 50-year-old woman.
David Hensley told the Tyler Morning Telegraph he wanted to give kudos to the Whitehouse Fire Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office and EMS for coming to his sister’s aide. Hensley said his sister decided to climb to the top of a tree to trim some limbs but soon discovered she was stuck and could not get back down.
“Everyone climbs trees with a cell phone, right?” he jokingly asked.
Hensley said his sister attempted to call her daughter who did not hear the phone ringing. The woman clinging onto branches high in the tree then dialed 911.
“Now here comes the Whitehouse Fire Department, the sheriff and an ambulance,” Hensley said.
Whitehouse fire officials said they did respond to the scene where a woman was stuck in a tree, but they would not offer any more details.
The woman’s brother said the entire family had laughed about the ordeal. Hensley said his sister was not hurt, but he did hope the incident would serve as a lesson to the public.
“Hopefully, this will discourage other 50-somethings from climbing trees,” he said.
