Seguin firefighters battle small blaze

Local fire crews were called out to CMC Steel for a blaze inside the plant. Gerald Weniger, Seguin Fire battalion chief, said the blaze was started after a line malfunction and it was a self-contained.

“Apparently, they had a hydraulic line that blew and it caught one of the rooms on fire,” he said. “Pretty much once they cut the hydraulic lines off it self-extinguished.”

McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and called Seguin Fire Department for assistance.

While the fire may have been minor, it could still cause a loss of product and production while getting the area back online, Weniger said.

“It was down close to the melt shop and they may have lost some product, but they should be up this afternoon,” Weniger said on Monday.

No injuries were reported.
