Fredericksburg woman dies in house fire
A woman died early Saturday morning in a house fire that apparently started after an explosion, according to the Gillespie County sheriff’s office. About 1:30 a.m. , emergency officials were called to a house at 3186 U.S. 87 , just south of Fredericksburg, because of a report of a possible explosion at the residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials arrived to find the home engulfed in flames and unsuccessfully attempted to save the woman after neighbors said she was inside, a sheriff’s office media release said. Firefighters later found the body of Joan Knorr, 74 , inside the residence, the release said.
Officials said five other people inside the home escaped and were either treated at the scene or at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg. The cause of the explosion and fire had not been determined as of Saturday afternoon.
