On Sunday, fire threatened a 40-foot x 60-foot workshop CR 2291. Firefighters with Tarkington VFD extinguished the fire before it could destroy the building and other items nearby. On Sunday afternoon, as many Tarkington residents were settling in to watch the Texans take on the Colts, Tarkington firefighters were being dispatched to a report of a barn fire on CR 2291.

Shortly before 2 p.m., neighbors noticed smoke coming from a building on CR 2291 and called 9-1-1. First arriving units found a 40-foot x 60-foot workshop with smoke pouring from it.

In addition to the workshop, which contained numerous pieces of equipment including a generator, lawnmower, and chainsaws, a nearby travel trailer and pickup were threatened by the fire.

Firefighters on Engine 51 worked quickly to extinguish the fire, minimizing damage to the building and contents. The Liberty County Fire Marshal was notified and an investigation is pending.
