Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire that badly damaged the home of the mayor of Roman Forest. The fire broke out about 6 p.m. Tuesday at the house of Floyd Jackson, Jr. in the 200 block of Chariot in the town of some 4,000 residents just north of Humble.

No one was home at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported, Jackson said.
Jackson said the fire burned much of the interior of the 3,000-square-foot, two-story home and charred the rafters. It took firefighters about three hours to extinguish the blaze, he added.

It appeared the fire started in the kitchen, but investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze. Along with family photographs and other heirlooms, Jackson said he lost his 1989 Chevrolet Corvette.
