Update: read account from the Wharton Journal Spectator
One man was temporarily displaced after a Sunday morning house fire. Firefighters were called to the home in the 200 block of Sheppard Street shortly after 7 a.m. when a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the house, said Scott Stewart, assistant fire chief. The fire was contained to the attic and brought under control in about 20 minutes, he said.

But the man who lives in the home could not immediately return, said Pat Curry, director of the Matagorda County Chapter of the American Red Cross. It is the fifth fire the organization has responded to in 15 days, Curry said.
