Firefighters had to remove burglar bars in order to rescue a young man from a burning home on Sunday, but another young man did not make it out alive. It happened at 4431 Hollybrook, near Reality in northeast Harris County. Investigators said around 4:30 a.m., the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the house fire in progress. They arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames and one young man trapped behind locked burglar bars.

Firefighters were able to remove the burglar bars in time to free him. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

“There were a lot of burglar bars in the house. The fire department actually had to cut the victim out that was transported,” said Lieutenant Chad Shaw of the Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office. “It was possibly just a late call because when the fire department got here, it was already heavy fire throughout the house.”

Once inside the home, firefighters found another young man, who did not survive. Investigators said they do not know the cause of the fire at this time.
