2-Alarm Fire Destroys NW San Antonio Home

A two-alarm fire destroyed a home on the city’s Northwest Side early Monday. Carmen Villegas said that she and her family had stayed up late playing cards and had been in bed for only about 45 minutes when her husband woke her up at 2:30 a.m. and told everyone to get out of the home. The family and their pet Chihuahua made it out safely, but the house was a total loss.

“You see these things in the news and you think it’s never going to happen to you,” Villegas said. “It was just horrible. We don’t know what happened.”

Villegas said her home in the 9000 block of Exbourne Drive is insured, which she hopes will cover the damage.

A cause is under investigation.
