Texas Forest Service helped firefighters with a brush fire Thursday west of U.S. Highway 281 near Palito Blanco. Alice firefighters responded about 1:45 p.m. to the fire, which burned about 10 acres and threatened two homes, an official said. The forest service used a helicopter to dump water on the fire and used a bulldozer to remove grass around its perimeter to keep it from spreading.

Along with the Texas Forest Service, Alice firefighters were assisted by several volunteer fire departments including Ben Bolt, Orange Grove, Premont and San Diego.
