Corpus Christi firefighters needed an hour to put out a grass fire on 1500 Cantwell Lane behind Valero’s Bill Greehey East Plant refinery Thursday. Firefighters were called out at 1:30 p.m. to a grass fire that grew to 3-to-4 football fields, according to fire officials. The fire was out by 2:30 p.m.

Fire officials don’t know what caused the fire, but said the grass was very dry from the on-going drought conditions. Officials at Valero are checking to see if flaring may have sparked the fire.
