A 3-year-old girl nearly drowned at a family pool in the Eastwood Knolls area of the East Side, an El Paso Fire Department spokesman said. At 2:37 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters were sent to the 10000 block of De Anza Circle after relatives found the girl in a pool. Police said the girl was playing in the backyard when she fell into the pool.

The girl’s family had already started cardiopulmonary resuscitation when firefighters arrived. Paramedics continued to perform CPR on the child while she was taken to Del Sol Medical Center and then to Providence Hospital. The girl was in critical condition.

The police Crimes Against Children Unit is investigating the incident.
