Fire Starts Near Port Aransas

Firefighters say that fire started Sunday morning near an electrical transformer in the 5200 block of Highway 361 just south of Port Aransas. About 15 firefighters responded. In addition to fire trucks, crews used brush trucks, shovels and even a contractor’s construction equipment to stomp out the flames.

Firefighters said Sunday’s winds weren’t a factor and the cooler weather helped them fight the fire. No one was hurt in the blaze. Smoke from the fire could be seen across the bay from downtown Corpus Christi.
