Thank you Scott,

Yes, this is so true unfortunately we came to know of the bond and strength of the “Brotherhood” too late. Only now have we come to know the many wonderful guys and gals and their families within the departments Cohnway worked for. Then there are the countless Brothers and many others behind the scenes that never knew him. The unselfish caring and support our family has witnessed and received is indescribable. Never will we be able to say “Thank You” to each and everyone who has touched our lives in such a way. But they know who they are and for them, we are truly thankful.

I believe God has made a special place in heaven for all firefighters because he made all firefighters so special here on earth.

Absolutely the hardest thing in this world is for a Parent to have to bury a child. I cannot fathom what this did to you. I do know that in my 30 years on the line that was my biggest fear, having something happen and put my family through what you had to endure.

The ONLY comfort I can bring to you is the thought that the Fire Service is much like the Marine Corp…….. Once you are a Firefighter you are always a Firefighter, and the Fire Service lives on so a piece of you lives on in the hearts of all your Brother Firefighters….

Today is 1 full year since Cohnway passed away. I want to thank each and every member of the Oak Hill/Westlake, Manor and Yoakum Fire Departments for all of their support for the Johnson Family through this. There is way to many of you guys and gals to list on here, but ya'll know who I'm talking about. Oak Hill/Westlake Fire Departments put on a softball tournament this past weekend to benefit the "Cohnway Johnson Scholarship Fund" to help other people realize their dreams of being a Firefighter/EMT through the Oak Hill Fire Academy. This is a very good academy that has instructors that watches whats happening with the cadets and knows how to properly train for real life situations, unlike some other academy. They know there is no since in running the cadets for 5 miles, they have engines to drive or ride to the accident scenes.
As everybody knows, Cohnway was declared LODD by first the State of Texas then by HFd and finally by the Federal so his name will be on all the Walls of Honor. During the past year, HFD came out with their "internal investigation" that took 10 months to complete. It was about 3 pages long and the longest part was explaining the route the guys ran. I have a Grandson that will be 2 years old on the 12th of this month that can tell me more about his Uncle Cohnway than they had in the report.I couldn't believe they even offered that up for a "internal investigation" report. We are now still waiting on the NIOSH report that should be out just any time now. That's going to tell about what went on and what needs to be changed at the hfd academy. We WILL see what changes we can help make.
Again, Thanks for all the shoulders we have cried on and the ears we have bent in the last year and the years to come. I do want everybody to know this likes a lot being over with.

Thank You MAnderson. HFD did a fine job on the Memorial Service to honor all of it's Fallen Heroes. I want to thank all the people that came from all of the Fire Departments that Cohnway worked for. It was a Beautiful Service and I also want to thank Laura Archibald for all she has done for the Johnson Family.

Cohnway Matthew Johnson has now been declared LODD by The State of Texas, The Federal and HFD. His name will now be on all of the Firefighter Memorial walls. He Deserves that.
