The Sherman Fire Department used their new rescue boat about five times during Wednesdays torrential downpours. The fire chief says they had been training all day on the lake and were called in when the heavy rains started coming down.
As roads in Grayson County began to flood, Sherman’s Technical Rescue Team put their skills to the test.

Chief Jones says, “When I had to call them back yesterday afternoon the guys were familiar with the equipment. They had some training already and they were ready to go when the time came last night.”

Thanks to a $200,000 grant funded by the Department of Homeland Security the Sherman Fire Department has a new rescue boat and trench rescue trailer.

“The ability to now have the equipment to respond to those emergencies. It’s like most of what we do. We hope we never have to use it but when the time comes it’s nice to have the right tool for the right job. A couple of years ago when we had the flooding we called high water and swift water teams from Dallas and Ft. Worth area to assist us and now we’re able to return the favor.”

The trench rescue trailer will help if a building were to collapse trapping people in rubble.

“If we had a tornado or other wind damage that might result in some building damage, we can use this equipment to keep our personnel safe while we made that rescue.”

Sherman says now their Technical Rescue Team is equipped to help anyone in Texoma that needs assistance.
