Police and Firefighters Rescue Man Hanging From Harbor Bridge

Print This Post | Email This Post

Officers arrived at the Harbor Bridge to find a depressed and intoxicated 38-year-old man who had climbed off the walkway and was hanging from one of the bridge’s bottom braces with his entire body dangling in mid-air.

A CCFD ladder truck was called to the scene, but its bucket was still roughly 40 feet too short to reach the suspect. CCFD provided a hook on a pole and a CCPD officer managed to hook the man’s belt loop which enabled officers to pull him to safety.

According to the CCPD, the man surely would have fallen to his death were it not for several officers holding him during the rescue.

The man was taken for medical treatment and psychiatric evaluation.
