Overnight fires come fast and furious in Dallas

Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel battled at least four fires in less than one hour overnight. A 47-year-old homeless man was severely burned in a fire that was reported at 1:42 a.m. Friday in a garage apartment at 10th Street and Bishop Avenue in Oak Cliff. Fire department spokesman Jason Evans said the man had entered the building looking for food. He suffered 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns over 20 percent of his body and also suffered from smoke inhalation, Evans said. The victim was reported in serious condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
One hour earlier, at 12:53, firefighters were at the scene of a residence fire in the 1500 block of Marburg Street in South Dallas. No injuries were reported.
Moments later, at 12:55, the alarm went out at a vacant house nearby in the 2900 block of Lagow Street near Fair Park. The one-story structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and the roof collapsed before the fire was brought under control.
Firefighters also responded to another alarm at 1:09 a.m. near the fairgrounds in the in the 3600 block of Frank Street. One emergency vehicle was involved in an accident on the way to the scene, but no injuries were reported.
The cause of all four fires was under investigation.
