At least nine children were taken to area hospitals after their school bus overturned following a collision in far western Grand Prairie Monday afternoon. None of their injuries are believed to be serious.
The 3:30 p.m. wreck at Highway 360 and Fountain Parkway happened after a black sport utility vehicle ran a red light, according to police. Two adults and 27 children from Larson elementary, ages 6 to 12, were on the bus.

Accident investigators said the SUV struck the bus and caused it to spin into a traffic control box in the intersection’s southwest corner. The bus flipped on its side in a grassy area. Both the driver of the bus and another teacher riding on the bus helped children safely exit the overturned bus. The two adults suffered only minor injuries.

The view from SKY 4 showed a hectic scene in the moments after the accident. Crowds of worried parents and emergency personnel gathered with the children in a parking lot at the intersection’s northwest corner, trying to sort through the children’s stories.

Paramedics transported nine children to area hospitals for various non life-threatening injuries. The rest of the children we either picked up by parents or transported home by another bus.

Police cited the driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Christine Fielder, for running a red light. Nor she, nor her three children were injured in the accident.
